How Serious Relapsing Really Is

When you suffer from an alcohol or drug addiction it can be really hard to kick the habit for good and sometimes it just doesn’t happen for the person, but there are steps you can take to make sure you give a valiant effort at getting clean. Individuals suffering with addiction will typically not want to receive help and usually friends and family will need to get the person to take the steps needed to become clean. With support it can make it easier to become clean because they won’t feel all alone which is one of the reasons why addicts continue abusing.

A strong support team will be able to help you get over your addiction, but you’ll also need to attend a rehab addiction program to get clean. Most rehab addiction centers in the United States don’t do their job exactly as prescribed and although they may help the addict get clean for the time while their at the center, 70% of those addicts will relapse when back on the streets and in society.

70% is a monster number to think of for the percentage of people that are relapsing in the US, but the number is very true and in fact it seems to be growing. The job of a rehab treatment center is to help individuals with addictions become clean not only for the short-term while at the treatment center, but also for the long-term so that they don’t relapse once back in society.

A good treatment center will make sure they do there best to teach relapse prevention techniques to there patients so that once they do leave they have the skill set to not relapse. You can find rehab centers with relapse prevention classes in some areas of the US including Alcohol Addiction Rehab Center in San Antonio, Texas and a Drug Addiction Rehab Center in San Antonio, Texas. Most of the time it’s a mental game not to relapse and depending on the people the person interacts with will reflect how they do.

If the individual goes back to hanging out with the same people and the same old friends that got them into the problem in the first place then this is a sure-fire way to relapse quickly because they’ll still be doing it which will make your body want to do it and it can be hard to resist the temptation. If you start hanging with different people that don’t hand around drugs and alcohol then not doing those substances will be easier. Once the substance is placed in front of you then it can be really hard not to do it, so it’s important that if you don’t want to relapse that you don’t put yourself into the predicament where it could happen.
