Nuva Ring Birth Control
Nuva Ring is one if the effective methods of birth control. It is a soft flexible ring of about 2 inches in diameter. It is worn in vagina. After wearing the ring for three weeks, it is removed for one week, in which the menstrual period occurs. It is a hormonal birth control measure containing two female hormones, namely estrogen and progesterone.

Function
The function of Nuva Ring is to prevent pregnancy by not releasing the eggs by ovary. It also makes uterine lining thinner which in turn inhibit implantation of fertilized egg. It does not allow sperm to enter in the uterus by making the cervical mucus thicker. It is inserted in vagina in between day one and five of the menstrual period even if bleeding continues.

Effectiveness
Nuva Ring has very low failure rate. It is almost 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. But after use of 4 weeks you must reinsert a new ring, as it is not considered effective for more than one month.

Advantages
• Once it is fitted you need not to worry about daily attention for a month. You can place the ring by yourself. No doctor or nurse is required for the same.
• It becomes your private matter. No one can know about it. Even your partner will not be aware of its presence.
• When it is removed, ovulation (release of egg) returns immediately.
• It provides regular menstrual period. However menstrual period may be shorter than the normal period.
• It has fast action. It provides consistent medication in blood through vaginal wall membrane.
• Use of the ring will decrease the appearance of acne. It has very limited side effects.

Disadvantages
• You can gain weight while wearing it. But the gain is very slight.
• You may feel headache and light sensitivity but not very severe.
• Mild nausea may also disturb you initially but it can be resolved within few days.
• You can feel moodiness initially but continue use of the ring will diminish the problem.

Protection against STD
Nuva Ring does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) like syphilis, gonorrhea etc. If you have multiple sexual partners or your partner have multiple sexual partners, it is strongly recommended that you must use condoms to protect yourself from STDs.

Points to keep in mind
• If you wear Nuva Ring for more or less than three week, the effectiveness of the ring will be decrease.
• If ring is out of the vagina for less than three hours you can reinsert it after rinsing the ring with cold or lukewarm water (do not use hot water).
• But if the ring is out of body for more than three hours, it is recommended that you must use other method of birth control like condom, until the new ring is inserted.

Overall, if you keep in mind above described things, Nuva Ring will certainly be a very effective method for birth control.
